On this page Content components We’re enhancing our greenways network in Boroondara by planting more native vegetation. These plantings benefit our local wildlife and support community access to nature.Where we’re planting Ferndale Park, Glen IrisWe’re completing a 3-year biodiversity planting program along the greenway at Ferndale Park. Year 1: In spring 2025, we converted areas of grass surrounding the path in the north-west section of Ferndale Park, south of Denman Avenue (marked 1 on the map), to mulched biodiversity areas. Thank you to everyone who came to our community planting day in July 2026. Together we planted 5,500 indigenous plants that will provide food, shelter and nesting places for wildlife.Year 2: From 26 October 2026, we’ll begin herbicide spraying on grass areas that run either side of the path between Goodwin Street and Renwick Street (marked 2 on the map) to get these areas ready to plant in winter 2027. King Street Chain Reserve, BalwynWe’ll be converting the area to the west of the path between Canyon Street and Gordon Street, as marked on the map. In late October 2026, we’ll begin herbicide spraying the grass areas in this section ahead of planting new native vegetation in winter 2027.
