Achieving this vision requires more than local action alone. Many of the decisions that shape Boroondara’s future are made beyond Council. That is why advocacy is a vital part of Council’s role.

Advocacy is most effective when communities, councils and governments work together. By building strong partnerships and speaking with a unified voice, we can secure the investments and reforms needed to create a thriving, connected and sustainable Boroondara for generations to come.

Why we advocate

As the level of government closest to the community, Council understands local challenges, opportunities and priorities better than anyone.

We advocate because many of the projects and policy changes that matter most to our community rely on decisions made by other levels of government. 

Advocacy allows us to:

• Secure funding for local infrastructure and community projects.
• Influence state and federal policy decisions that affect Boroondara.
• Support the delivery of essential services for our growing community.
• Raise awareness of local issues and opportunities.
• Ensure the voices of Boroondara residents are heard by decision makers.
• Build strong partnerships that deliver long-term benefits for our city.

How we advocate

Council uses a range of advocacy approaches to champion the interests of the Boroondara community, including:

• Engaging with State and Federal Government decision makers, including local Members of Parliament.
• Collaborating with neighbouring councils.
• Preparing evidence-based submissions and policy proposals.
• Raising awareness of local priorities through public campaigns and engagement activities.
