The sports facilities at Victoria Road Reserve have received a much-needed upgrade.

New safety fencing will be installed in the second half of 2024 before the cricket season starts in October.

About the project

The oval works were completed in June 2024 and the oval has re-opened with the following improvements:

  • a new drainage and irrigation system
  • installation of sand profile and turf
  • new AFL goal posts and onsite goal post storage
  • new oval perimeter fencing
  • cricket nets increased to 4 lanes with some of the synthetic run-ups moved off the sportsground
  • removal of 2 trees and 3 trees planted to replace them
  • new environmentally-friendly LED lights
  • a new synthetic cricket pitch.

These upgrades follow the recent renewal of the Victoria Road Reserve pavilion. Together they provide a high-quality sportsground for everyone to enjoy.

Safety fencing update

New safety fencing will be reinstated before the cricket season starts in October 2024.

We’ll be reinstating safety fencing outside the oval perimeter in previous locations:

  • in front of the playground
  • on the south boundary
  • in the west AFL goals area.

The reserve will stay open except for the immediate area around these works.

Timeline

These upgrades were originally expected to start in September 2022. Due to unseasonal weather conditions, the project start date was delayed until September 2023.
