In September 2024, a section of the Back Creek Trail from Cornell Street to Riversdale Road was closed due to the worsening condition of creek erosion.

Creek erosion can happen when water wears away the soil and rock along the creek bed and banks. It can make the surrounding areas unstable and potentially cause further damage.

Our community’s safety is our top priority, which is why we decided to close the affected site while we investigate.

Update

In April we shared our plans to repair the erosion along Back Creek Trail. We anticipated construction would be underway by June but further investigations showed that the erosion is more complex than it first appeared.

Winter rain and changing water levels have made conditions unpredictable and impacted the progress of works.

Contractors have advised that spring and summer will provide safer, more suitable conditions for the work. Warmer weather, lower water levels and drier ground will help crews complete the repairs more efficiently.

We acknowledge this closure and delay has caused inconvenience and frustration in our local community. We want to assure you we’re doing all we can to resolve this issue as efficiently and safely as possible.
