About the project
We’re developing a bold new Greenways Plan to expand and connect our network of walking and cycling paths — with $3 million already committed to create new path links and make existing paths safer and more accessible for our community.
Our Greenways Plan will enhance connectivity between our neighbourhoods, parks, schools and key destinations. These connections will make it easier and safer for our community to move around, stay active, drive less and enjoy their local environment.
This plan will:
- incorporate and consolidate all the path recommendations identified across our existing strategies and masterplans, such as the Boroondara Bicycle Strategy 2022 and the Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) Master Plan 2022
- identify new path links in parks, reserves, freeway reserves and Victorian Government land to help expand and better connect our network
- identify areas to improve vegetation and biodiversity, including new or additional trees and plantings in parks and reserves along our path network.
What is a greenway?
A continuous path for shared use, predominately off-road, with vegetation along its length, linking important destinations.
They are:
- continuous and connected – linking landmarks, historic buildings, open spaces, riverways, shopping strips, commercial centres, schools, sporting fields and community facilities
- for shared use – recreation, walking, and cycling
- vegetated – to create wildlife corridors and habitats.
