We’re renewing the sportsground and sportsground lighting at Ferndale Park as part of our reconstruction program. This upgrade will make sure the oval meets the needs of local sports clubs and the wider community well into the future.

Works include:

  • a new playing surface, irrigation system and drainage to better support current use and reduce instances of sportsground closures
  • a new synthetic cricket pitch
  • the installation of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly LED sportsground lighting.

Sportsground lighting

  • The 4 light poles will be replaced and re-aligned as shown in the image below.
  • The existing light pole near the scout hall is being shifted west to be placed outside of the 50m arc to be compliant with AFL standards.
  • The existing light poles are 22m high. The new light poles will be 25m high, which will better direct the light down toward the playing surface. The new poles will be black in colour.

During construction

Works to the sportsground are expected to begin in September 2025 and be completed by mid-2026. The oval won’t be accessible during this time. A small number of car parking spaces will be used by the contractor for a laydown/site shed area. Works will occur Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm and some Saturday works may occur if required.

Other areas of Ferndale Park, including the playground, pathways, car park and scout hall will remain accessible. We encourage you to use nearby sportsgrounds Nettleton Park or Eric Raven Reserve during this period for recreation purposes.

We're also renewing the pavilion at Ferndale Park. Find out more on our Ferndale Park pavilion renewal page.
