Content components Welcome to 2026! I do hope it’s started well for you. At Council we’re stepping into a full and exciting year working for our community. Did you know Boroondara is one of the top council areas for electric vehicle (EV) ownership in Victoria? We’re determined to play our part in making electric transport accessible for everyone. Last year we partnered with EV charging company EVX to help bring Victoria’s first 2 power pole-mounted EV chargers to Boroondara. These chargers benefit our community at little cost to Council as they’re owned, run and maintained by external companies and users pay a fee to charge their EV. Our teams are helping power companies pinpoint suitable locations for more, with 10 priority sites currently under investigation. Why? Because if we want more EVs on the road, charging needs to be available where people live. Pole-mounted chargers are a game-changer for apartment dwellers, renters and anyone without off-street parking. I’m delighted Boroondara is leading the way on this. These chargers join Council’s own fast-charging stations in Ashburton, Burwood and Hawthorn, with 2 more planned over the next 12 months. In March we’re running our third Repair and Reuse Community Day. This is a super-practical event that brings our Circular Economy Strategy to life. Bring along broken or worn items like bikes, jewellery, clothing and small electrical appliances and local experts will give you help and advice to fix them. You’ll agree with me that our unique local shopping areas are vital to our community life and local economy. We’re making a new plan to revitalise the community infrastructure in these areas and want to hear what you’d like us to focus on. The community consultation is open now so have your say.Cr Wes GaultMayor of Boroondara
