Note: For safety reasons, car seats must be in good reusable condition, less than 8 years old with mandatory AS/NZS1754 safety stickers. They must not have been in an accident, however minor.

- Avoid by using reusable cloth wipes that can be laundered
- Dispose of in your household waste bin.
Note: Even if labelled ‘flushable’, do not flush these down the toilet, as they cause major sewer blockages.
Bakery and cake boxes
- Avoid by taking your own reusable container and lid instead
- Recycle in your recycling bin
- Recycle at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre or at the Kew Depot Recycling Drop-off Centre.
Bakeware, Pyrex and glass food containers
- Reuse by selling, swapping, giving away or donating to your local charity/op-shop (see our Op shops in Boroondara page)
- Give away or sell by posting on Boroondara Hard Rubbish Rehome Facebook group, Facebook Marketplace, Ziilch or Gumtree.
- Reuse by donating to Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (RIMERN) and You matter
- Dispose of in your household waste bin.

Batteries (household – alkaline, NiMH, NiCad)
- Avoid waste by using rechargeable batteries where possible
- Recycle at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre
- Recycle at one of our local e-waste collection banks (car batteries not accepted)
- Recycle through B-cycle drop-off locations (car batteries not accepted).

Bean bag balls (polystyrene)
- Bag and tie up balls securely, then dispose of in your household waste bin. Bagging ensures the balls don't get stuck when the collections truck is emptied.
- Dispose of at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre (fees apply).
Note: Polystyrene bean bag balls cannot go in your recycling bin or be disposed of through hard waste.
Bed base or bed head
- Give it another life by posting on Boroondara Hard Rubbish Rehome Facebook group, Facebook Marketplace, Ziilch or Gumtree.
- Dispose of at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre (fees apply)

- Recycle by dropping off at textile retailers (e.g. Sheridan), find them through Planet Ark
- Recycle by donating to Southern Cross Recycling
- Recycle via RCYCL, a local Melbourne business that takes your unwanted clothes and fabrics that are too soiled, stained or torn to donate. RCYCL shred these and turn them into yarn to be made into items like rugs, felt and carpet underlay.
- Dispose of in your household waste bin.
Berry punnets
- Recycle in your recycling bin

Beverage can clips
- Recycle via Endeavour Group's beverage can clip recycling scheme. Drop off locations available at Dan Murphy’s Brunswick East, Dan Murphy’s Collingwood, Dan Murphy’s Prahran, BWS Richmond, BWS Brunswick and BWS Fitzroy.
- Cannot be recycled in your recycling bin.
Bicycles
- Donate your bicycles to Bicycles for Humanity to assist global projects and empower communities. Simply drop your bike off at any branch of Bicycle Superstore.
- Donate your bicycles to Brainwave Bikes. They refurbish bikes in any size or condition (as long as the frame isn't cracked, bent or extremely rusted) to raise money for their charity Brainwave, supporting families and children with brain injuries and illnesses.
- Donate your bicycles to Dr Cranky's, a primary school-based bike recycle program that aims to ensure all kids have access to a roadworthy bike
- Give your bike another life by donating to The Bike Shed at CERES
- Give away or sell your bike by posting on Boroondara Hard Rubbish Rehome Facebook group, Facebook Marketplace, Ziilch or Gumtree
- Dispose of at the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre (fees may apply)
- Dispose of by booking a hard waste collection.
Binders/folders (plastic with metal rings)
- Recycle at Green Collect in Braybrook (fees apply)

Biscuit trays (plastic tray inside packet of biscuits)

Blankets
