On this page Content components About the projectWe’re renewing the Ferndale Park pavilion in Glen Iris to better support sports clubs, community groups like U3A, park visitors and the local community. We consulted our community over two stages to help design the pa3vilion. Find out how their feedback shaped the design on our Ferndale Park pavilion consultation page. Key features of the new pavilion include:4 changerooms with toilets and showers, built into a lower-level extension. These changerooms will accommodate demand and provide better facilities for women and girlsan accessible public toilet with external accessimportant accessibility and safety upgrades, including building lightingflexible multi-purpose spaceumpires room with 2 sets of toilets and showerssheltered, elevated decking area at the front of the paviliontiered spectator seatinginternal and external storage for clubs and U3Afirst aid room, connected to one of the changerooms, with internal and external accesssustainability features including a solar PV system and rainwater harvesting tanksa new pedestrian and bicycle pathway connecting to the Ferndale Trail, which forms part of the wider Boroondara Greenways networkcarpark lighting upgrade to improve safety for sports clubs and park visitors. The upgrades are in line with our Development and Funding of Community Pavilions – Sport and Recreation Policy and our Boroondara Community Plan 2021–2031. Project statusThe construction contract to renew the pavilion has been awarded and we expect construction to start in November 2026.Project budget $4.8 million of funding is allocated in the 26-27 Council budget.During constructionThe sportsground, playground and public toilet (next to the Glen Iris Road entrance) will stay open, and you can continue to use them as usual. There’ll be access to the 1st Glen Iris Scout Hall throughout construction.Construction will happen between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasionally there may be work on Saturdays between 9 am and 5 pm. We will keep weekend work to a minimum.Changes to the car park We’ll use part of the car park located next to the pavilion for temporary sports club facilities and construction equipment. This means approximately half of the car park spaces will not be available during construction.Changes to paths We’ll need to close the path that runs from the Ferndale Trail to the front of the pavilion during construction to keep everyone safe. The main Ferndale Trail paths that head east from Glen Iris Road to the north and south of the oval will remain open. The path between the existing pavilion and 1st Glen Iris Scout Hall will remain open for most of the time, with potential for some short closures. View the map below for alternative paths. Tree removalWe design projects to avoid impacting trees wherever possible, but 2 trees need to be removed due to site constraints. These are the same 2 trees identified during community consultation. We’ll plant 3 new native trees to replace them and improve shade in the area.TimelineDatesStageStatusNovember 2026Construction expected to startIn progressEarly 2028Construction expected to finishUpcomingMore information Contact us and mention ‘Ferndale Park pavilion renewal’ to speak to the Capital Projects team.
