Content components The North East Link Program (NELP) is providing funding for us to plant trees in our parks and reserves. NELP has funded tree planting in Hyde Park (70 trees), Freeway Golf Course (120) and Columba Street Reserve (134). In 2025 a further 80 trees were planted in:Grovedale Park (Surrey Hills)Naroo Street Reserve (Balwyn North)Ropley Avenue Reserve (Balwyn North)John August Reserve (Balwyn)Cooper Reserve (Camberwell).In 2026 we are planning on planting over 300 NELP funded trees in:Grace Park, HawthornKellett Reserve, KewHarrison Reserve North, Kew EastCooper Reserve, CamberwellHartwell Station Reserve, CamberwellSinclair Avenue Reserve, Glen Iris10 Clifford Close, AshburtonWatson Park, AshburtonMarkham Reserve East, AshburtonMarkham Reserve, AshburtonWinton Road Reserve, AshburtonPitt Street Reserve, AshburtonWandeen Street Playground, Balwyn NorthFreeway Golf Course – 7th and 4th hole, Balwyn NorthMont Albert Park, BalwynMinifie Reserve, Balwyn.Further tree planting is being planned for 2027 and 2028. Most parks where trees are to be planted undergo rigorous soil improvement. Species to be planted complement the existing character of each park and provide much needed shade and habitat for local birds, mammals and insects. We carefully select species to ensure they will survive and thrive in future climatic conditions.Information on the tree planting activities is posted ahead of planting and a letter box drop is also conducted to inform residents living nearby of upcoming planting activities.
