The Become a Sustainability Changemaker course is a 10-week program for young people who want to act on environmental issues and create positive change in their community.

Through hands-on learning, you'll develop practical skills in leadership, project management, communication and collaboration, while gaining the confidence to turn your ideas into action. Whether you’re interested in a career in sustainability, looking to strengthen your resume, or simply want to connect with like-minded, passionate young people, this course will give you valuable experience and transferable skills that can support your future study, work and community involvement.

About the program

What you can expect from the program:

Gain practical, transferable skills in project management, communication and collaboration
Become part of a strong network of like-minded young changemakers
A resource booklet to support your sustainability journey
Develop the confidence to lead sustainability projects in your community
Create and showcase your own project at the end of the program
Receive CERES-accredited micro-credential (attendance conditions apply).

What you’ll experience

The program has 10 weekly, 3-hour sessions (6 pm to 9 pm) at Council’s Camberwell offices. It starts on Wednesday 9 September and ends on Wednesday 18 November. Course dates include a 1-week break on Wednesday 14 October.

The program will be delivered by CERES School of Nature and Climate, experts with 43 years of sustainability education experience.

The course will cover topics including:

Creating and delivering community-led climate action
Behaviour change practices
Communications and consultation skills
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ culture.

Who is eligible

You will need to meet the following 3 criteria:

You are 18 to 35-years-old
You live, work or study in Boroondara
You can commit to the full 10-week program of weekly in-person sessions in Camberwell.

Cost

We fund 90% of the course fees and you’ll pay $119.60 to participate. This includes a light dinner at each session.
