Coronavirus update 13 March 2020

COVID-19 restrictions: what's closed and what's open.

With an abundance of shade, lush lawns and pretty gardens, and only a short stroll from the Maling Road shopping village, this site is perfect for celebrations and gatherings.

Mature trees dot the extensive lawns complementing the fine perennial borders, parterre gardens and a rosarie. A path with a beautiful bridge meanders through an avenue of weeping cherry trees to a raised rotunda with commanding views of the gardens.

Since the 1940s, Carols by Candlelight has been held in these gardens and it's a popular setting for celebrations - ideal for weddings - and events throughout the year, including performances as part of our Summer Music series.

190B Canterbury Road, Canterbury 3126

Designed in the Gardenesque style from the early 1900s, these gardens still feature some established trees from this time.

The gardens are situated on former market gardens and farms. In the 1850s, West Creek traversed the property and passed under a long culvert at the lowest point of Canterbury Road. The creek is now underground, leaving the valley dry.

The land was fenced in 1903 and named Canterbury Reserve after Viscount Canterbury, the Governor of Victoria (1866–1873).
