A perfect site for celebrations and gatherings, with an abundance of shade, lush lawns, pretty gardens, and only a short stroll from the Maling Road shopping village.
Carols by Candlelight has been held in these gardens since 1940. It's a popular setting for celebrations, weddings and events throughout the year, including our Summer Music performances.
Mature trees dot the extensive lawns and complement the fine perennial borders, parterre gardens and a rosarie. A path with a beautiful bridge meanders through an avenue of weeping cherry trees to a raised rotunda with commanding views of the gardens.

History
Designed in the Gardenesque style from the early 1900s, these gardens still feature some established trees from this time.
The gardens are situated on former market gardens and farms. In the 1850s, West Creek traversed the property and passed under a long culvert at the lowest point of Canterbury Road. The creek is now underground, leaving the valley dry.
The land was fenced in 1903 and named Canterbury Reserve after Viscount Canterbury, the Governor of Victoria (1866–1873).
