We recently renewed Rowen Street Kindergarten to better meet the needs of children, families, and the teaching team at the kindergarten, now and into the future.

The Victorian Government contributed $300,000 to this project as part of its Building Blocks Early Learning Capacity Building grants program.

About the project

We worked with the kindergarten’s committee of management and families to develop a concept design.

Key features include:

• Extension of one of the kindergarten rooms
• A better layout to create easier access to the kindergarten rooms from the foyer
• Upgrades to the entry, foyer, and toilets to make the building accessible for people of all abilities
• A new shared office and planning area with a kitchenette 
• A new meeting room.

Winter sports schedule

The east and west ovals at Hartwell Sportsground host numerous sports across the summer and winter seasons. When training or matches are taking place, the oval must be cleared to ensure the safety of all players, pets and visitors.

The winter season runs from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026.

Nettleton Park features:

• a sportsground
• 2 synthetic cricket pitches
• cricket nets with 3 lanes
• a pavilion.

Please note: We are planning to renew Summerhill Park Kindergarten in 2027 to provide a high-quality learning facility for our community. While works are underway, 3- and 4-year-old kindergarten programs will be temporarily relocated to the Solway Primary School Hall, adjacent to Solway Primary School, 18 Taylor Street Ashburton. Glen Education Rowen Street deliver innovative, multi-age programs in a team-teaching environment where 3-year-old and 4-year-old children learn alongside each other rather than adhering strictly to age-based separation. 

All children are eligible to attend 15 hours of free kindergarten, delivered across 2 days.

Pre-Prep children are eligible to attend 22.5 hours of free kindergarten, delivered across 3 days.

Additional hours may be offered later in the year and will be communicated by Glen Education. These hours will incur an additional fee for families.

About Glen Iris Road Uniting Kindergarten 

This kindergarten is located in a purpose-built centre attached to Glen Iris Uniting Church next door to Glen Iris Primary School.

The teachers and educators here take on many roles to play with your child and use a range of integrated teaching and learning strategies to strike the balance between child-led and educator-supported learning. 

The 4-year-old program runs a government-funded, early childhood language program learning Chinese (Mandarin) and also participates in the ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) program, which you can learn more about on the ELLA website. 

The kindergarten runs a year-round 'all weather' Nature Kinder Program at Glen Iris Wetlands. Through this weekly program, your child will connect with the local environment and discover the many benefits of getting involved in nature and an active lifestyle.
