We’re upgrading the Hartwell Sportsground pavilion to better support sports clubs and community groups. 

The current building no longer meets today’s needs. It has:

• small changerooms with open block showers
• no dedicated multi-purpose space for sports club and community groups
• not enough storage for equipment
• poor accessibility in and around the pavilion
• facilities that don’t meet our Development and Funding of Community Pavilions Policy (PDF).

A key focus of the upgrade is improving the changerooms, so they are more inclusive, with better facilities for women and improved accessibility for everyone.

We’re investing $5.4 million in this project.

Designed to spark imaginations, this upgraded castle-and-creek-themed playground aims to: 

• create new play experiences for a range of ages and abilities
• improve accessibility for all playground users
• complement the nearby Gardiners Creek trail.

Playground features

• a play unit with platforms, slides and climbing suitable for younger and older children, with play opportunities underneath
• a triple swing frame, including a basket seat
• castle-themed features including a drawbridge to the main play unit, castle moat and rope haul
• a frog rocker
• animal footprints on concrete paths
• junior swing frame
• carousel
• pommel see-saw.

We've also improved the seating overlooking the playground.

Sports schedule

Lewin Reserve hosts cricket, rugby and dog training across the summer and winter seasons. When training or matches are taking place, the sportsground must be cleared for the safety of players and visitors.

The summer season runs from 1 October 2025 to 30 March 2026. Below is the schedule for the summer season at Lewin Reserve.

This upgraded playground has plenty of new equipment for climbing, as well as activities to build balance and coordination and a range of play experiences for children of different ages. 

Burwood Reserve playground features

• a combination play unit with platforms, slides and climbing, suitable for younger and older children, with play opportunities underneath
• a rope climbing unit
• a bounce pad
• monkey bars and turnover bars at different heights
• a triple swing frame
• logs and boulders for seating and play
• accessible carousel.

Other upgrades around the park 

• improved paths, seating and gathering areas
• built shade over parts of the playground
• more trees to increase shade in the future
• a dedicated accessible car parking space
• removal of the overhead electricity line.
