The Social Companionship Initiative is a friendly intergenerational activity at Hawthorn Library, pairing Swinburne University nursing students with older residents for weekly conversations.

The get togethers help to reduce loneliness, build community. It also assists future nurses to practice empathy, listening, and person centred care.

Held on Tuesdays at 11am at the Hawthorn Library (the last catchup will be 30th June 2026).

Ashburton Seniors Centre

The club organises day trips to locations outside Melbourne on a quarterly basis.
The trips include visits to places of interest, lunch and, in some cases, opportunities to do some shopping.

The trips are on the last Wednesday of the month in February, May, August and November.

The trips are open to members. and those who are interested in joining but would like to try out some activities first

The club has a walking group which meets on the third Monday of each month.

Walks are usually within Boroondara and are aimed at beginners through to intermediate walkers.
Each event includes a morning tea break.
