A hidden gem in the heart of Hawthorn with majestic, well-established trees and excellent views of the city.

Large areas of open space, sportsgrounds, beautiful heritage trees, shaded barbecue areas, walking circuit and terrific views make Anderson Park a great spot for picnics, dog walking, sporting activities or simply enjoying the outdoors.

Please note: the Anderson Park Community Hub renewal is now underway, due to be completed in mid to late-2023. Auburn South Preschool will continue operating onsite during the works. Limited car parking is available outside the building entrance, and temporary traffic changes may be introduced as needed. The public toilets at the building are closed, but public toilets at the nearby Tennis Pavilion remain open.

History

Anderson Park was bought by the Council in November 1911. The 5.6ha block was originally part of a plant nursery known as the Mount Ida Estate.

Playground

The extensive playground is set on 3 levels and includes wave slides, climbing walls, a rope walkway and a long flying fox.

Sports and leisure

The 1km circuit around the park is popular with walkers.

Two playing fields are used for sporting activities. Terraced steps around a side of one of the grounds are ideal for watching sport or relaxing.
