Boroondara e-Bike Library

Our new e-Bike Library gives you the chance to try an e-bike for free. If you're a Boroondara resident, you can borrow an e-bike for 2 weeks to see if it suits your lifestyle.

The trial program begins on 28 July 2025 and will run for 18 months. 

Where and when to borrow an e-bike

You can borrow an e-bike from one of our partner neighbourhood houses during the following stages.

How to book

Stage 1 of the trial is now fully booked. 

Bookings for Stage 2 will open in late December 2025 via the Trentwood at the Hub website. Once the booking link is live, we’ll add it to this page. 

To follow up an existing booking, you can: 

• call Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre on 03 9890 2467
• visit in person at 157 Union Road, Surrey Hills
• register interest online via the E-bike Library Loans page

After 2 weeks, return the e-bike to the neighbourhood house. 

Who can participate

To participate you must:

• live in Boroondara
• be over 18 years of age
• know how to ride a bike competently and have your own helmet
• understand and sign a legal waiver
• be insured through Bicycle Network’s bike riding insurance. Our neighbourhood house staff will help you set this up.

Why participate 

By choosing to ride an e-bike for short trips, you’ll contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. Using e-bikes is fun, easy and can be a great choice for:

• travelling to work
• taking children to kindergarten, preschool or primary school
• going to the shops
• exploring local destinations
• physical activity and recreation
• getting outside in nature. 

They also benefit older adults because they require less physical effort than a non-electric bike. 

In line with Victorian standards, the e-bike has a motor that does not provide power at speeds higher than 25km/h.
