Add Life to Your Years - Painting with Alan

Every day there are people coming together all over our City to improve their health and wellbeing, make a contribution to the community, make new friends or simply to get out and about. Alan is one of those people.

Neighbourhood houses and community centres

There are 11 neighbourhood houses and community centres in Boroondara. These community spaces bring people together to connect, learn and contribute in their local community. 

They all offer a wide range of arts and crafts courses, from pottery and watercolours to quilting and furniture upholstery, so you're sure to find something to suit you.

University of the Third Age

University of the Third Age, also known as U3A, focuses on the education and stimulation of retired members of the community. The syllabus is broad and the annual subscription cost is low, as all teaching and administration is provided by members on a voluntary basis.

The 2 U3As in Boroondara, Deepdene and Hawthorn, offer a range of arts, crafts, music and literature courses and groups.

Music and literature groups

There are many book clubs in Boroondara for people to come together to discuss the books they've read. Book clubs are also a fantastic way to meet new people and socialise.

Whether you enjoy creative writing or want to write your own biography or family history, there's a group for you. Get together with other budding writers and encourage and learn from each other or take a course to sharpen your writing skills.

If you already read and play music you might want to join one of the many bands or choirs that rehearse and perform in Boroondara. There are also courses for those who want to learn to play music. Pick up a ukulele and you'll be playing in no time!
