[Music plays and we see an older man walking into a pool. We hear a man speaking. He is identified by text on screen as Bill, Fitness Instructor, Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre. As he speaks we see shots of aqua aerobics at the pool.]

"Once you're retired, once you've finished your working life, your life hasn't finished, has it?

You've probably got a good 35 year ahead. People are going to live longer, and it's important not only to live longer, but to live a healthy life after that. And the only way to stay healthy is by being physically active, mentally active."

[We see an older woman sitting in a hall with an exercise class happening behind her. She is identified by text on screen as Susie, Secretary, U3A, Deepdene. As she speaks we see shots of older people in classrooms, music groups and exercise classes.]

"Being part of the U3A makes me feel energised. It makes me feel that my brain's active.

It gives me a sense of community, a sense of real enjoyment in the people around me.

I just really feel like I'm learning."

[We see an alder man sitting in a room surrounded by shelves of pottery making equipment. He is identified by text on screen as Alan, Watercolour Teacher and Artist, Camberwell Community Centre. As he speaks we see shots of him teaching a watercolour class. ]

"Being able to maintain social contact is really important. Now we can't all be physically active, but if we're mentally active, that can feed out into the physical aspect anyway. As long as you've got something to do. And being individual is something that makes you happy, and being happy makes you fit... and it just goes on and on and on...

You can come here, and you can do pottery. You can do watercolour, you can do drawing. You can play bridge. You can learn a language. It's incredible! This is available in your community. Come and do it. It's just there for you - but people don't realise it!"

[We see an older woman sitting in her garden. She is identified by text on screen as Yen, President, Vietnamese Senior Citizens Association. As she speaks we see older Vietnamese people singing, dancing and playing table tennis.]

"Come and join us and try to do it, and you will find something is good for you."

[Bill speaks again]

"Simply get out of the house. Join something, do something. Even if it's volunteering here or there."

[Susie speaks again]

"Make a call, and you'll be welcomed."
