Summer in the Park is jam-packed with incredible entertainment for kids and families from 29 January to 28 February.
All events are free and family friendly, but these are some of our top picks for kids…
1. The festival opens this year with Djirrungana Kulture (High Culture) at Maranoa Botanic Gardens. It’s a special night of Indigenous culture, music and storytelling to captivate all ages. Plus, for any youngsters with more energy to burn, the format will be perfect to roam around or break away to the nearby Beckett Park playground for a bit.
2. Woody’s Bush Bash is a free Saturday morning (31 Jan) concert for kids bringing big laughs and catchy tunes to Maling Road. It’s a high-energy show of funny storytelling, bushland puppetry and original Aussie songs. Woody will also teach the basics of ukulele playing, then everyone can join in the finale of the show!
3. There’s a spook-takular outdoor cinema on the cards for Friday the 13th with The Addams Family (1991) screening at Greythorn Park. Enjoy the family fun and dress to impress - there will be prizes for the best Addams Family outfits!
4. Head to Balwyn Park for Lunar New Year in the Park, a Sunday afternoon celebration filled with rich culture, traditional music, dancing and everyone’s favourite Lion Dancers.
5. Busy few weeks ahead? You can play it by ear and head down to the brand-new Camberwell Civic Precinct festival hub from 5 to 8 pm any Friday in February.
There’s no booking needed, just pack a picnic, grab your crew and enjoy! Running over 5 weeks, we have a stellar lineup for you starting with a soul-filled and totally family friendly Party in the Park.
If you’re a household that loves to move, line dancing will be another treat for all ages during Country in the Park. Our Zorba in the Park also kicks-off with a free Greek dancing lesson from 5:30 pm before one of Melbourne’s favourite Greek bands, Estudiantina of Melbourne takes over for the rest of the evening.
These are all completely free, all-ages events. While you’re at the festival hub in Camberwell, take a break any time at the Slow Art Collective space where everyone’s invited to get creative and add their own touch to a growing community art installation. Specially designed for kids, there’s also Pet Rocks in the Park - a fun, hands-on activity that will turn the park into a magical rock hunt for other visitors to discover. All supplies provided – just bring your imagination!
