If you own or manage property in the City of Boroondara but don’t live here, you may be entitled to vote as a council-enrolled ratepayer.The next local council elections will be in October 2028.Types of votersThere are 2 types of voters in Boroondara council elections:State-enrolled votersYou must enrol and vote if you:are 18 years or olderare an Australian citizenhave lived at your address in Boroondara for longer than one month.You are automatically enrolled through the Victorian Electoral Commission. Council-enrolled voters (ratepayers)Some ratepayers can apply to become council-enrolled voters in Boroondara if they are:a property owner, occupier or a representative a corporation18 years or oldernot a state-enrolled voter within the Boroondara area. Council-enrolled voter categories Expand all Collapse all Owner ratepayers You can apply to enrol in Boroondara if you:own property and pay rates in the council areaare 18 years or olderare not a state-enrolled voter who lives in Boroondara.This includes:Australian citizens who own a property in Boroondara but do not live in the area (for example an investment or holiday home)non-citizens over 18 years old who own property and live in Boroondara.Up to 2 people per property can apply to enrol, but each person only gets one vote. Occupier ratepayers You can apply to enrol in Boroondara if you:pay rates for a property that you occupy but do not ownare 18 years or olderare not a state-enrolled voter within the Boroondara area.Up to 2 people per property can apply to enrol, but each person only gets one vote.If you want to continue voting, you must apply to enrol again before the next local council general election in 2028. We will send you an invitation when it is time to renew your enrolment.If you were enrolled for the 2024 local council general elections, you will remain enrolled for any council by-elections up until 2028. Voting will be compulsory. Corporations You can apply to enrol to vote on behalf of a corporation if you:are a director or company secretary of a corporation that pays rates (as owner or occupier) in the council areahave consented to being appointed as the corporation’s representativeare not already a state-enrolled or council-enrolled voter within the Boroondara area.Only one person can apply to enrol as the corporation’s representative. Corporation representatives’ enrolment expires before the next local government general election.If you want to continue to vote, you must apply to enrol again before the next local council general election in 2028. We will send you an invitation when it is time to renew your enrolment.If you were enrolled for the 2024 local council general elections, you will remain enrolled for any council by-elections up until 2028.
