About the awards

Who do you know making an outstanding contribution in the Boroondara community? 

Being an exemplary citizen can take many forms. You might have a co-worker, friend, student, neighbour, volunteer, teacher, sports coach, the list goes on and on, who is making a big difference for the better of our community.

The Boroondara Citizen of the Year awards recognise people in Boroondara who have made an exceptional contribution to our community through leadership or commitment to improving the lives of others.

There are 2 award categories:

Boroondara Citizen of the Year award
Boroondara Young Citizen of the Year award.

Award criteria

The person you nominate must have made an exceptional contribution to the Boroondara community by demonstrating:

exceptional leadership that inspired others as a role model and/or
improving the quality of life of others in the community
special skills, talents and attributes to stand out and make an impact in our community.

This can be a single achievement or a contribution they’ve made over many years.

Eligibility

Citizen of the Year Award

The person you’re nominating:

must be an Australian Citizen who lives, works, studies or volunteers in the City of Boroondara
must be someone else (we don’t accept self-nominations)
can't be a current Councillor or Council officer of the City of Boroondara

An unsuccessful nominee from a previous year can be nominated again. A successful nominee can only be nominated again 6 after years being successfully selected.

Young Citizen of the Year

In addition to the above criteria, the person you’re nominating in this category must be under the age of 26 on 26 January 2027.
