A dog attack can include any incident where a dog rushes at, attacks, bites, harasses or chases a person or animal (other than vermin), even if there is no injury caused to the animal or person.

Step 1: Contact us

Call us on 9278 4444 as soon as possible if you or your pet is attacked by a dog. If the attack is happening right now, an officer will attend immediately. Otherwise, we have Council Officers on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist.

Step 2: Record the details

Make a record of everything relevant about the dog attack, including:

  • time of the attack
  • location (nearest residential address or exact park location)
  • description of the dog and owner
  • taking photos of any injuries
  • keeping copies of any records from your doctor or vet.

Step 3: Assessment and response

The Council Officer will make an assessment and respond within 24 hours to discuss appropriate action.
