The Ashburton Support Group meetings happen on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, either in person or on Zoom, from 7 pm to 9 pm. They are for family members and friends of loved ones with problematic alcohol, drug, or gambling use. They are led by volunteers with their own lived experience, and provide safe, confidential, and friendly places where members can learn strategies on how to cope, gain information and support and be among people who understand. All meetings are free, but you need to call to book a place at a meeting.

Try your hand and reflexes at a social hit of table tennis. The general focus will be on doubles (much more social) but of course, if numbers permit singles will be great also. You're welcome to come as a one-off and pay as you go, or to enrol for the whole term. This is a fun, social activity and is a great way to keep moving and connect with others. Suitable for all skill levels. Equipment is provided however you are most welcome to bring your own bat.

Our walking group has been exploring the streets of Ashburton for over 20 years. Join friendly and welcoming people to do an hour of gentle exercise outdoors every Wednesday at 10am. The group do a gentle stroll and finish with a coffee. Meet at the Centre (co-located with the Ashburton Library).

Acoustic Music Group – All welcome! Guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, keyboard. Fridays (first and third of every month) 7.30-9.30pm.

Weekly Fee: $5, pay as you go

To participate in a Connect Group, you will need to be a member of Ashburton Community Centre. The Centre Membership fee is $15 per annum.

MATERIALS - All students must provide their own instrument, a stand and be able to print new music to bring to each class.

Spend an enjoyable afternoon discussing books in a warm inclusive book club aimed at seniors.

Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.

You will learn to feel and capture the meaning of objects from nature with your interpretation then you will express the objects variously with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence in your strokes. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

All materials including brushes included.

A range of classes to choose from with different tutors who practice different yoga styles. Classes include Energising Morning Flow, Intro to Chair Yoga, Yog (Back Care), Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Zumba Gold. All classes include relaxation and meditation practices.

The Alamein Neighbourhood & Learning Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides social support activities for local residents aged 65 years and over. Assistance may be available with transport.

Social Support Group: Mondays and Wednesdays 10am – 12pm.
