Residential properties whose general waste bins are collected by us are eligible for 2 bundled green waste collections each year.

Bundled green waste collections happen during peak garden seasons – one in April and one in October. They are in addition to regular weekly FOGO bin collections.

Outside of these times, green waste can be taken to the Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre (tipping fees apply).

Apartment and unit bookings

If you live in an apartment block where bins are collected by us and with 15 or more units, your body corporate or managing agent needs to make the booking for you.

Book a collection

Bookings open in April and October, 2 weeks before collections start.

You can book for a preferred week (not a preferred day). Actual collection will happen any time from 6:00 am Monday to 4:00 pm Friday on your preferred week.

What we collect

  • Tree branches and prunings (up to 7.5 cm wide and 150 cm long, securely tied with non-plastic string or twine in bundles of up to 30 cm diameter)
  • Single tree limbs with no branches or leaves (up to 20 cm wide and 150 cm long)
  • Tree roots that can be lifted by one person.

What we don't collect

We won't collect your green waste if it includes any of the following:

  • food waste
  • green waste over the maximum size
  • green waste that's not bundled/tied
  • timber
  • tree stumps.

Prepare for a green waste collection

You can put your waste out the weekend before collection. To avoid people adding to your pile, put it out the night before.

The size of your pile can't be bigger than 2 m³. This is around what would fit into 2 small trailers.

Where to put your bundled green waste

Put the bundled green waste on the nature strip outside your property. We don't collect from rear laneways, driveways or private property.

Keep the footpath clear and easy to access. It's helpful if there are no vehicles parked in front of your pile.

How to tie, bundle and stack green waste

  • Sort your green waste into bundles that are no longer than 150 cm and no wider than 30 cm diameter.
  • Tie the bundles with non-plastic string or twine.
  • Stack them neatly.

Avoid fines and non-collection

You might get a fine if there are items in your green waste pile that we don't accept.

Your waste won't be collected if it is:

  • tied with wire, plastic string or ties, stockings etc
  • in boxes or bags
  • not tied up.

If people add to your green waste pile and you're worried about going over the maximum amount, you can:

Change or cancel a collection

Please call (03) 9278 4444 to:

  • change the date of your collection
  • cancel it.

We need at least 2 business days' notice.
