On this page Content components Apply for a Works Zone Permit if you need dedicated parking spaces to park trade vehicles for your construction site. Permits are valid for at least 3 months.Before you applyMake sure you have the following for your application.A plan with dimensions showing the road area and the location of the proposed works zone. It should include the current parking arrangements on the street and all street assets.Photographs of the nearest existing parking signs to the proposed works zone area. Make sure these signs are also noted on your plan.A letter to notify properties affected by the works. The letter should include the name and contact details of someone on site, the site plan and construction dates.If you want to extend your work zone beyond the boundary fence, you will need a letter of consent from the neighbouring property.Permit conditionsA Works Zone Permit is issued for a minimum of 3 months.The works zone must be located directly in front of the construction site and can only extend to the width of the property it serves, unless you have written permission from a neighbour and our approval.It must be in a legal parking area.It can’t be within a 'No Stopping', 'No Parking' or 'Disabled Parking' area.It must be consistent with any Planning Permit conditions.This permit only covers the specified construction activity. For additional activities like crane lifts, plant equipment or concrete pours, you must apply for a Road and/or Footpath Occupancy Permit or Road Opening Permit. You can do this on our Apply for a Road and Footpath Occupancy permit page.The works zone is only active during building work hours specified by the Protection of Council Assets and Control of Building Sites Local Law 2021. These hours are typically:Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pmSaturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm anddon’t apply on public holidays unless other restrictions or Planning Permit conditions apply. Apply for a Works Zone Permit Step 1: Submit your application Submit your application at least 4 weeks before you require the works zone to be in place. This is to allow time for:assessing your applicationpayment of your invoice if your application is successfulmanufacture and installation of the works zone signs.The fees that apply to this permit are available in the Fees section on this page.Apply online for a Works Zone PermitA printable application form is available for download at the bottom of this page if you prefer to submit a hard copy. Step 2: We'll assess your application We’ll send you a confirmation email when we receive your application. We’ll contact you if we need more information.Please allow up to 10 business days for your application to be assessed. It may take longer if we need more information. Step 3: Pay for the approved permit If your application is successful, you must pay before a permit is issued. We'll send you an invoice with advice on how to pay.Once you pay the invoice, the permit will be emailed to you and we’ll organise for the signage to be installed. Please allow 5 business days for installation.We recommend you read the Protection of Council Assets and Control of Building Sites Local Law 2021 at the bottom of this page, to become familiar with your obligations. Step 4: Send notification letters Once your permit has been approved and issued, send letters to the affected properties (which we will nominate) to notify them of the works.Send the letters to affected properties at least 48 hours before occupying Council land.In your letters, include:The onsite contact's name and contact detailsRelevant site plansThe dates the works zone will be in place. Expand all Collapse all Request an extensionYou can request to extend the number of days on your permit by emailing your request to [email protected]. Please include your permit number, which begins with OWZ and can be found at the top of your permit.The work zone signs will be removed if you don't request an extension of your permit before it expires. Please allow 10 days before your expiry date to apply for an extension.
