Heritage buildings form a large part of our City’s unique character.

A large number of historically significant properties have already been protected across Boroondara, but there are still many others worthy of heritage protection.

Community feedback is crucial to the heritage assessment process. That’s why Council seeks the community’s views throughout the process of identifying and protecting heritage places.

These include:

  • Preliminary consultation, where Council will seek feedback on the draft heritage study from the community.
  • Public Exhibition, a 1-month Public Exhibition period where the community can make formal submissions on the proposed Heritage Overlays.
  • An independent planning panel, which provides further opportunity for residents to present their views.

There will also be the opportunity to address Councillors at an Urban Planning Delegated Committee Meeting after each milestone.

The Minister for Planning will have the final decision on whether to approve the Heritage Overlay or not.
