All our libraries are closed over the entire Easter break.

Some of our services are closed or have different hours over Easter, from Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April.

Follow these emergency response procedures if you are in a library meeting room and you hear either of the 2 warning tones.

During library hours

Emergency

A Beep - Beep - Beep tone indicates an emergency alarm has been activated in the building.

How to respond

  • Keep calm and stay where you are (if safe to do so).
  • Wait for further instruction from Building Fire Wardens (in white or yellow hats).

Evacuate

A Whoop - Whoop - Whoop tone indicates that you must evacuate the building.

How to respond

  • Follow directions of Building Fire Wardens who will direct you to a safe Exit and Evacuation Assembly Area.
  • Remain at Evacuation Assembly Area until further advised by Fire Warden or Emergency Services.

Outside of library hours

Evacuate

Any alarm activated out of regular hours will escalate to a Whoop - Whoop - Whoop tone.

How to respond

  • Remain calm.
  • Dial 000 and report emergency and tell them if anyone needs help to evacuate.
  • Evacuate building by safest designated fire exit.
  • Assign someone to assist people in wheelchairs, and others needing support, to get to the Evacuation Assembly Area. Wait with them until Emergency Services arrives.
  • Notify Council's After Hours Duty Officer on (03) 9278 4444.
  • Keep a safe distance from the building and stay together.
  • Wait for Emergency Services.
  • Do not re-enter building until instructed by Emergency Services.
