South Surrey Park playground, Surrey Hills

Accessibility was a key factor when designing the new South Surrey Park playground. Nature play and wheelchair-accessible equipment are highlights, along with new interpretive signage.

Playground features

• Play unit with 2 slides, climbing ramp, ground-level interactive play and bucket and pulley system
• Quadruple swing set with 2 toddler swings and 2 strap seats for older children
• Wheelchair accessible basket swing, separate from the swing set
• Spinner with a seat and space for people in wheelchairs
• Agility trail with track glide, wobbly bridge, monkey bars and balance beam
• Double spring rocker
• Carousel with a wheelchair-accessible seat 
• Pulley play system
• Self-closing, wheelchair-accessible gates (not fully latched) 
• Key word signs (the first of their kind for Boroondara’s local network and requested by local community members) 
• Feature rock and companion rocks on the other side of the creek
• Interpretive signage with art by Melbourne artist Claire Mosley to support educational, play-based activities
• Signs pointing out 2 significant trees inside and next to the playground.
