Last year, we partnered with local government program Solar Savers, which helps our residents and business access affordable, quality solar power for their home or business.

The program is led by the Eastern Alliance for Greenhouse Action (EAGA) and has 13 Victorian Councils participating, including Boroondara.

For a limited time, Solar Savers is offering households a $500 discount off the price of solar systems or battery installation.

Solar power in Boroondara

Solar Savers have done the hard work by selecting reliable, experienced local solar installers, who have been independently evaluated on their safety, product quality and value for money.

Using Solar Savers means Boroondara home and business owners can receive free quotes on solar systems and batteries including costs, rebates, and expected energy and cost savings from a trusted source.

The not-for-profit organisation also provides you with free and credible advice about solar products, government rebates, and tips to reduce your energy bill.

Since 2022, 34 residents in Boroondara have had solar PV systems installed in their home or business through Solar Savers.

How it works

  1. Register your interest on the Solar Savers website. You can also call 1300 548 598.
  2. Solar Savers will check your eligibility and if you qualify for the $500 discount and any government rebates. Residents who hold a Pensioner Concession Card will be prioritised for the discount.
  3. If solar and/or a battery is right for you, an accredited installer will call you to discuss suitability and arrange a quote.
  4. You can review the costs and approve the system proposal to proceed. You can also apply for the State Government rebate and loan with the help of Solar Savers and your installer if required.
  5. Solar installers will organise network approval, install your system to industry standards and provide you with a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

Benefits of solar power

Solar panels generate renewable electricity by converting energy from the sun. The solar panels generally sit on a house or shed roof facing north so that they get good access to the light.

Installing rooftop solar panels can help the average Victorian household save $1,073 on their annual energy bills, according to Sustainability Victoria, by:

  • reducing the amount of mains electricity you draw from the grid, and how much you are billed by your retailer
  • being paid a feed-in tariff from your electricity retailer for each unit of electricity your PV solar system exports to the grid.

You can find out more about these savings on the Sustainability Victoria website.

Solar panels also give you greater peace of mind against future electricity price rises and allow you to reduce overall carbon emissions – which helps us progress our community targets, as outlined on our Climate Action Plan page.
