How to use the temporary service

  • Check this page to make sure the collection points are open — if either of the collection points are full, we will update this page to say which collection point has stopped accepting soft plastic items for recycling. There is limited capacity at each collection point. You can find out more in the Conditions of this temporary service section on this page
  • Bring photo identification with:
    • a Boroondara address listed, or
    • a matching name on a Boroondara rates notice as proof of residency.
  • Drop your soft plastic off for recycling at your preferred collection point.

Where your soft plastic goes

APR Plastics recycles soft plastics collected by this temporary service at its processing facility in Dandenong South. The soft plastic is turned back into raw materials to produce new plastic products. You can find out more about this organisation on the APR Plastics website.

Conditions of the temporary service

This temporary service supports Boroondara residents to recycle small amounts of soft plastic items after the collapse of the REDcycle program. It’s not available for businesses or large amounts at this time.

APR Plastics will collect the soft plastics twice a week. Due to the limited capacity at each collection point, we will not be able to accept more soft plastic for recycling if a collection point becomes full.

We will update this page regularly to let you know if a collection point has stopped accepting soft plastic items for recycling. There will also be signage at the collection points to notify residents.

APR Plastics may also stop accepting soft plastic if they reach capacity limits at their processing facility or are no longer able to process the material.

This service will end when the Australian Government coordinates a longer-term, more viable soft plastic recycling solution with the supermarket and packaging industry. We continue to advocate on behalf of our community for action.
