To mark International Volunteer Day this year, we will be celebrating cultural diversity across volunteering and recognising the outstanding contribution of Boroondara’s volunteers at a special event.

In the 12 months prior to the 2021 Census, 13.1% of residents from culturally diverse backgrounds reported volunteering through an organisation or group, compared to 9% across metro Melbourne.

We would like to acknowledge the ongoing positive impact volunteers from culturally diverse backgrounds have in making Boroondara a better place to live.

Interested in volunteering?

If you are interested in volunteering and would like to learn more about the opportunities available, you can:

Recently, the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre spoke with Mikiko, a volunteer at Alamein Neighbourhood and Learning. Mikiko shared that she was inspired to volunteer because of the outstanding support she was provided by other volunteers whilst she was learning English.

“It’s quite fun and a lot of people are actually interested to know your background and it’s a great ice breaker to talk about those things,” says Mikiko.

You can watch more videos about the experiences of other volunteers on our Volunteers of Boroondara page.
