Burglars take keys, then vehicles

Boroondara Police have arrested multiple offenders recently for car thefts resulting from home burglaries.

'We are seeing a trend of home owners leaving the doors of their homes unlocked, which leads to easily accessible car keys, and cars being stolen,' says Inspector Craig Pearson.

Boroondara Police are working closely with neighbouring regions to combat this issue, with Operation Fortress providing a highly visible police presence overnight.

You can keep your car safe by:

  • locking all doors and closing the windows of both your home and vehicle, even when you’re at home
  • parking in a well-lit and secure area
  • never hiding keys on your property or in your vehicle
  • installing anti-theft devices and ensuring they work.

'We also urge residents to consider CCTV. It acts as a great deterrent and investigative tool and supports early interception and arrest of offenders,' says Inspector Pearson.
