Warm weather and increased rainfall mean that mosquito season is officially underway in Boroondara.

Mosquito bites are more than just a nuisance. Some species of mosquitoes can transmit serious illnesses, including the Buruli Ulcer, a painful bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue.

You can protect yourself and others from mosquitoes by:

  • changing the water in pets’ water bowls, bird baths and vases at least once a week
  • cleaning drains to ensure that water flows freely still water creates the perfect breeding ground for pests
  • placing sand around the base of pot plants
  • covering swimming pools when not in use.
