We’re renewing Estrella Preschool in 2026 as part of our early childhood facility renewal program.

While works are underway, the kindergarten program will be temporarily relocated to the Solway Primary School Hall, 18 Taylor Street, Ashburton.

Status

Works are expected to start in February 2026 and finish by late 2026.

About the project

We’ve worked closely with the kindergarten’s committee of management and teachers to develop a design for a high-quality early years facility.

The upgrade of the Estrella Preschool building will improve the overall functionality and accessibility of the facility to better support children and families of all abilities.

Works will include:

• refurbishing the kinder room including new flooring and lighting
• a new entry and undercover area to welcome families
• a larger office to support the teaching team for planning
• a combined staff and meeting room with a kitchenette
• a new children’s bathroom
• improved landscaping at the entrance to the kindergarten.

The upgraded playground at Winton Road Reserve is designed with nature in mind, and aims to: 

• improve accessibility
• offer a range of play experiences for children
• increase nature play opportunities
• better meet the needs of children, families, parents, grandparents and caregivers, now and into the future. 

Playground features

• A play unit with platforms, slides and climbing that's suitable for younger and older children, with play opportunities underneath
• A climbing stalk
• A carousel that is wheelchair-accessible
• A triple swing frame, including a face-to-face swing
• Logs and boulders for seating and play
• A nature play area with tree education signs and the Winton Shop cubby
• Fruit and nut trees within the nature play area. Please note: an allergy warning sign is displayed at the playground.
• A learning circle where children can sit together, share stories and listen to each other. It's inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have been using yarning circles for thousands of years to listen, connect and understand.
• A track glide and monkey bars
• A seesaw and rocker
• A discovery trail with animal footprints and sculptures.

• Two picnic table settings
• A paved footpath from Winton Road to the playground and outdoor shelter area.

About the reserve

Warner Reserve is a pocket of green space in the suburbs of Ashburton.

The ground entrance is located behind the Craig Centre and Ashburton Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

* Our Organised Sport Seasonal Allocation Policy allows for night matches during the summer season at pre-approved sportsgrounds. There may be some night matches at Warner Reserve through the season.
