Order a bin

We offer a standard suite of 3 bins to new residential properties and to existing properties without bins:

  • One 80L general waste bin, collected fortnightly
  • One 120L recycle bin, collected weekly
  • One 120L FOGO bin (plus 7L kitchen caddy). The FOGO bin is collected weekly.

We accept requests for bins from a property owner, managing agent or owner’s corporation (not the tenant).

We reinstate bins for properties which have completed building works, after we see the Certification of Occupancy.

We aim to deliver bins within 2 business days.

To order a bin, contact us at [email protected] or on (03) 9278 4444.

Order a different size bin

If you already have bins, you can order more or different sized bins, such as:

  • larger general waste bin
  • larger or second recycling bin
  • larger or second FOGO bin (residential properties only).

Fees apply to larger general waste and larger or second FOGO bins, but recycling bins are free of charge.

A property owner, owner’s corporation or managing agent can request changes to general waste or FOGO bin sizes.

Anyone, including tenants, can request a different sized recycling bin.

Order a larger general waste bin

You can upsize to a 120L general waste bin. There will be an increase in your waste charge for this.

You can order a 240L general waste bin if

  • there are 4 or more people in your household, or
  • you have medical reasons. If you have medical reasons you can apply for a concession fee. Download a 240L waste bin concession form (below) and attach the completed form to your order.

Email [email protected] and tell us why you need a bigger bin.

General waste bin fees

Charges for a general waste bin are added to your rates notice as 'waste charge'. Changes to general waste charges are calculated on a pro rata basis.

FOGO caddy

Council provides one FOGO caddy to every household. If your caddy is lost or broken, you can get an inexpensive replacement for less than $12 at most major retailers.

Waste services at commercial properties

Commercial properties are eligible for:

  • 80L, 120L or 240L general waste bins (collected weekly)
  • 120L or 240L recycle bins (collected weekly).

Only property owners or managing agents can request larger bins at commercial properties (not the tenant, even if they pay rates).

FOGO bins haven't been rolled out to commercial properties.

Size checks for bins

Property owners can request size checks to confirm their bins' actual size matches the amount they pay on their rates notice.

We check bin sizes on your collection day. It may take up to 2 cycles to be checked.

When there's a disparity, we can either change the bin size to reflect the charge on your rates notice or we can amend your rates notice to reflect your bin size – it's up to you.

Waste charges for ratepayers

Each property that pays rates pays a yearly waste charge. This covers our costs for providing waste services, including:

  • Weekly FOGO and recycling collection
  • Fortnightly general waste collection
  • Weekly commercial waste collection
  • Twice-yearly hard waste collection
  • Twice-yearly bundled green waste collection
  • Yearly Christmas tree collection
  • Emptying rubbish bins in parks, shopping precincts and public spaces
  • Operating the team that carries out these services
  • Running the transfer station
  • Transporting waste to landfill
  • Disposal costs and levies at the landfill site.

Properties that only have a recycling bin (no general waste bin) are charged the minimum waste bin levy.

Residents in multi-unit developments with shared bins pay a waste charge depending on the number of bins at the property.

Residential properties that cancel their bin service, as well as commercial and residential properties with a private waste collection, are not exempt from this levy.
