Time limits are in place to ensure chargers are available for everyone. Our parking inspectors will be checking if the vehicle is an EV and if it appears to be charging.Pole-mounted EV charger trialWe’ve delivered Victoria’s first electricity pole-mounted EV chargers. Two chargers owned, operated and maintained by EVX have been installed in Ashburton, with plans to expand across Boroondara.Council has provided the public locations for the pilot but doesn’t own, operate, or maintain the chargers. The electricity distributor covers these costs, and users pay a fee to charge their EVs. Why we’re doing it Boroondara ranks as one of the top local government areas for EVs in Victoria and we’re focused on playing our part making electric transport accessible for everyone. Not every EV driver has access to off street parking or owns their own home, limiting their ability to install their own chargers. For these community members, having chargers available in public areas is vital. How the power is generatedThe EV chargers use electricity from the Victorian grid. In 2024/25, 42% of Victoria’s electricity came from renewable sources, with the government aiming for 95% by 2035.Renewable energy is purchased for Council-managed chargers, helping reduce fossil fuel use and support sustainable transport under our Climate Action Plan.More EV chargers are on the wayEV charging stations are being delivered as an action from our Climate Action Plan Implementation Plan, which commits us to making charging stations available within a 2 km radius of activity centres by 2030.
