Apply for copies of Building Permits and Plans

The City of Boroondara has a comprehensive archive of building permits and plans that you can request in line with Regulation 50 of the Building Regulation 2018.

Before you apply

• We cannot guarantee that the requested plans are available. You will only be invoiced if we find the documents you have requested.  
• It is highly unlikely drainage plans will be noted on building plans, especially historic plans.
• Where plans relate to buildings with multiple units, we can only provide information about the property you own. Information on other units and common areas is redacted for privacy reasons.

Who can apply

The current property owner can request copies of building permits and plans for their property.

If you are uncertain about the property’s ownership, the owner of the property will be listed on the rates notice.

Non-owners

If you are not the current property owner, you must provide either:

• a letter of authority from the current property owner
• proof of directorship and consent from the director (if the property is company-owned)
• current proof of appointment as the Owner’s Corporation Manager (OCM) (if managed by a body corporate)

You can submit your application now and submit your authorisation documents (e.g. letter of authority) at a later date to [email protected].

We cannot send you any building documents if we haven’t received the supporting documents.

Recent property purchases

If this is a recent purchase, until settlement, authorisation from the current owner is required.  

A contract of sale is not accepted as proof of ownership or as consent from the property owner.

Fees

*Note: The fees may be higher for complex projects involving staged or multiple permits and/or buildings. You will receive a quote for the fees in these cases.

Timeframe

If we locate the documents, we will issue you an invoice. Please allow at least 10 business days for a response.

Once the invoice has been paid, we will order your documents. This process takes at least 5 business days but can be longer for complex requests like multi-unit and commercial properties.
