Faces of Greythorn traces the transformation of this one-square-kilometre pocket of Balwyn North: from its early 1900s orchards bursting with lemons, limes, apples and cherries, to its violet farm, its famous wildlife sanctuary (1939-1953) run by the Maughan family with more than 200 animals, and later its evolution into a bustling housing estate and shopping strip in the 1950s.

Today, Greythorn stands proudly as a vibrant village hub, strategically positioned at the crossroads of the North East Link and serving as a gateway to Melbourne’s expanding east.

Be part of the story

Free hardcopy books will be available – first in, best dressed!
