Older adults are invited to try a range of walking and low impact sports at Boroondara Sports Complex on Tuesday 19 March 2024.

Walking sports are just what they sound like – versions of sports like cricket or basketball, but the players walk instead of run. Walking sports are fantastic if you want the fun of the game without the strenuous pace and rough contact.

Whether you are new to sport, haven’t played for a while or are keen to try something different, this event is a great opportunity for older adults to:

  • Experience a variety of engaging social and low-impact sports, such as walking Basketball, walking cricket and Pickleball (a paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes).
  • Learn more about the walking sports on offer in your local area.
  • Connect with others, stay active, and most importantly – have fun!

This free event is open to all older adults. You can attend either the morning or afternoon session, followed by a complimentary tea.

Each session consists of three 20 to 25-minute taster sessions allowing participants to rotate through each sport. Taster sessions will include simple skill-based activities to help you learn to play as well as optional game play.

This event is brought to you by City of Boroondara, in partnership with the YMCA.
