We manage the application process for most kindergartens in the City of Boroondara, that are not located in long day care centres or independent schools. We do this through our Kindergarten Central Enrolment Scheme.

Member kindergartens set their own session times and term fees. Our team administers the enrolment policy on behalf of our member kindergartens.

When to apply

You can apply for a kindergarten place anytime after your child turns 2.

Applications close at the end of term 2 in the year before your child starts. This is usually the last week of June.

Find the school dates in Victoria on the Victorian Government website-external site.

The date you apply does not affect how we allocate places, as long as it is before the closing date. This means children born later in the year are not disadvantaged.

When to start kindergarten

Use our kindergarten calculator or read our What is kindergarten page.

How to apply

Choose your preferred kindergarten

In your online application, you can nominate up to 5 preferences. You need to supply preferences for both the kindergarten and the specific sessions you want to attend.

We may not be able to place your child in your first choice kindergarten program. All children will be offered a kindergarten place by the end of the allocation process.

To help you choose a kindergarten:

Complete the central enrolment application online

If this is the first time you've applied for a member kindergarten place in Boroondara, you need to register your details with us. This means we can update you on your application progress, and you can manage your application online.

Enrolment application fees

You need to pay a non-refundable fee when you submit your application, unless you qualify for the fee subsidy.

If you qualify for the fee subsidy (concession), there is no fee.

  • $28 ($0 concession) for 3-year-old or 4-year-old kindergarten place
  • $56 ($0 concession) for 3-year-old and 4-year-old kindergarten place.

After you submit your application you will receive an email with a confirmation letter attached.

Late applications

Kindergartens accept applications year round.

If you apply for the following year after the central enrolment closing date you may be placed on a wait list.

Kindergartens consider applications submitted after the closing date, that meet high priority criteria, on a case by case basis.

Change your preferences

You can update your preferences after you submit your application by logging into your central enrolment account-external site.

If you want to change your preferences, you must do this by the end of term 2 in the year before your child starts kindergarten.

Late changes will move your child’s application to the wait list. For late changes contact Central Enrolments at [email protected] or on (03) 9278 4444.

Change your contact details

You can update your contact details by logging in to your central enrolment account.

If we can't contact you using the details you provide, we may withdraw your application.

Special consideration

If your family has circumstances such as disability or illness you can apply for special consideration. This means you are given a higher priority when you submit your enrolment application online.

You must provide supporting documents from a medical practitioner, health care worker or specialist to apply.

If you've already submitted an enrolment application and would like to apply for special consideration, please call Central Enrolments on (03) 9278 4444.

Applications for special consideration are assessed by our Children, Young People and Families team.
