1. Open short story

Criteria Prize
  • Open-themed short story open to all Australian residents
  • Word length between 1500 and 3000 words
  • First: $1500
  • Second: $1000
  • Third: $500

The Keith Carroll Award of $500 is given to the best entry from a Boroondara resident.

2. Young writers

Prose or poetry for young people who live, work or study in Boroondara.

  • Open to young people in school years 5 and 6
  • Prose length between 300 and 500 words
  • Poetry length must be less than 100 lines

  • Second: $200
  • Third: $100

Poetry

  • First: $300

Middle category

  • Open to young people in school years 7, 8 and 9
  • Prose length between 500 and 900 words
  • Poetry length must be less than 200 lines

  • First: $450
  • Second: $300
  • Third: $150

Poetry

  • First: $450
  • Second: $300
  • Third: $150

Senior category

  • Open to young people in school years 10, 11 and 12
  • Open to young people not in secondary school, aged 15- to 18-years as of 1 January 2018
  • Prose length between 900 and 1300 words
  • Poetry length must be less than 200 lines.

  • Second: $400
  • Third: $200
