Major changes are being proposed for neighbourhoods surrounding Ashburton, Riversdale and Willison train stations as part of the Victorian Government’s Activity Centres Program. For example, building heights of up to 6 storeys might be on the horizon for these neighbourhoods.

If you live in or around these areas, you may be part of a new planning zone being proposed by the government. Now is the time to for you to:

  • understand what this means for you
  • what it means for your neighbourhood and
  • how to give your feedback to the Victorian Government about their plans.

'Activity Centres’ at a glance

The Victorian Government’s Activity Centres program aims to increase housing density, which may lead to higher-scale developments, changes to building standards and fewer opportunities for residents to influence future planning decisions.

The overall goal of the Victorian Government is to create more places for more people to live in Boroondara, which is something that Council agrees with in principle.

However, these changes could significantly impact the character, liveability and future growth around Ashburton, Riversdale and Wilison train stations.

What Council is doing about our Activity Centres

So far, the Victorian Government’s plans for Activity Centres in other areas of Boroondara have lacked detail and this represents a concern for community members and Council too.

Council has been actively advocating the Victorian Government for a more consultative, collaborative approach to planning that includes the input and expertise of local planners.
