Content components Our Heritage – Boroondara Heritage Strategy 2025–2041 sets out our long-term vision for how we recognise, protect, support, and celebrate heritage across Boroondara.Our Heritage Strategy looks beyond traditional heritage protection. It embraces education, promotion, and community involvement so that our heritage remains a meaningful part of daily life.To reflect and honour the diverse stories, places, and traditions that shape our community, we take a broad view of heritage. This means looking beyond buildings to include Boroondara’s natural, cultural, social, Aboriginal, and other tangible and intangible heritage.Our Heritage Strategy is guided by 4 key pillars:Know – recognise and understand our heritageProtect and Sustain – safeguard and future-proof our heritageSupport – empower conservation of our heritagePromote and Celebrate – champion and showcase our heritageIt is accompanied by the Historical Societies Background Paper, which recognises the vital contributions of our local historical societies and establishes six guiding principles for how Council will continue to support their work.Our Heritage Action Plan 2025–2029 identifies the challenges and opportunities ahead, outlining both immediate initiatives and longer-term projects.On Monday 1 December 2025, the Urban Planning Delegated Committee adopted these documents. Together, they provide a clear, practical framework for caring for and celebrating Boroondara’s rich heritage.
