Content components Our Boroondara Heritage Strategy 2025–41 sets out our long-term vision for how we recognise, protect, support and celebrate heritage across Boroondara.The Strategy looks beyond traditional heritage protection. It embraces education, promotion and community involvement so that heritage remains a meaningful part of daily life.To reflect and honour the diverse stories, places and traditions that shape our community, we take a broad view of heritage. This means looking beyond buildings to include Boroondara’s natural, cultural, social, Aboriginal and other tangible and intangible heritage.Our Heritage Strategy is guided by 4 key pillars:Know – recognise and understand our heritageProtect and Sustain – safeguard and future-proof our heritageSupport – empower conservation of our heritagePromote and Celebrate – champion and showcase our heritageIt is accompanied by the Historical Societies Background Paper, which recognises the vital contributions of our local historical societies and establishes 6 guiding principles for how Council will continue to support their work.Our Heritage Action Plan 2025–29 identifies the challenges and opportunities ahead, outlining both immediate initiatives and long-term projects.On 1 December 2025, the Urban Planning Delegated Committee adopted these documents. Together, they provide a clear, practical framework for caring for and celebrating Boroondara’s rich heritage.
