The 2024 Boroondara Photograph Competition is now open. This year's theme is 'Explore Boroondara'.

Budding photographers of all ages and abilities can submit their photos until 11:59 pm on Sunday 5 May 2024. Our winners will be announced at the awards night in July 2024.

Photos submitted for the competition must be taken in Boroondara. You can use photos from Boroondara’s past or take new ones that reflect Boroondara as you see it now.

Enter for the chance to win great prizes and have your photo showcased in a public photography exhibition at the Town Hall Gallery.

Categories

There are 2 competition categories:

  • Young photographers competition – for young photographers of school age (up to 18 years old on 1 January 2024). Primary school and Secondary school entries will be judged separately. 
  • Open photographers competition – open to individuals of all ages. Historical and current photograph entries will be judged separately. 

You can submit up to 10 entries in each category that you are eligible to enter. You will need to fill in an entry form for each photograph submitted. 

Prizes

Young photographers competition 

For primary school photographers: 

  • First prize is $100 and an exhibition-quality print of the photograph. 
  • Second and third prize and highly commended is an exhibition-quality print of the photograph.

For secondary school photographers (years 7–12 and young people not in secondary school, aged 15 to 18 years as of 1 January 2024): 

  • First prize is $100 and an exhibition-quality print of the photograph. 
  • Second and third prize and highly commended is an exhibition-quality print of the photograph.     

Open photographers competition 

For historical photographs taken in Boroondara from 1860 to 2020: 

  • First prize is $100 and an exhibition-quality print of the photograph. 
  • Second and third prize and highly commended is an exhibition-quality print of the photograph.     

For photographs taken in Boroondara from 2021 to 2024: 

  • First prize is $100 and an exhibition-quality print of the photograph. 
  • Second and third prize and highly commended is an exhibition-quality print of the photograph.   

Overall winner

The overall winner will receive a one-on-one masterclass with an artist/photographer.

People’s Choice Award

The winning photographs will be entered into the ‘People’s Choice’ award. Town Hall Gallery will organise an in-person voting system to find out which entry wins this award. The prize is $100.

Framed photographs for exhibition

Each photograph will be framed individually. 

First and second prize photographs will have a 73 x 58 cm frame. Internal mount/backing Size: 69.8 x 54.8 cm. Internal visible Area: 68.9 x 53.9 cm.

Third prize and highly commended photographs will have a 58 x 43 cm frame. Internal mount/backing Size: 54.8 x 39.5 cm. Internal visible Area: 53.9 x 38.6 cm.
