This annual event gives you an opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most inspiring, eco-friendly homes. You'll hear directly from the people who designed, built and live in them.
Whether you're building a new home, renovating or just looking for tips, there's something for everyone.
In person event
On the Thursday 22 May, we’re hosting Building sustainable homes in Boroondara: presentation and panel discussion.
In this presentation, you'll learn from Ruth Redden, an Architect and Heritage Advisor, who'll share her knowledge on heritage, sustainability and PassivHaus. There will also be a panel discussion with those who've already taken steps to make their homes more comfortable to live in, cheaper to run and better for the environment.

Open house tours
On Sunday 4 May, over 150 homes will open their doors for in-person tours. Bookings are essential to attend an open home or view a video tour.

Online webinars
From Monday 5 May, you can join ticketed webinars with architects, designers, tradespeople and homeowners who can help you create a more sustainable home. Boroondara residents can purchase a webinar series pass for 50% off the standard ticket price, you can purchase the pass on the 2025 SHD Webinar Series Pass website.
They’ll cover topics like:
- finding a sustainable architect and builder
- building with natural materials
- insulation, energy efficiency and much more.
