Australian Migrant Education Service

Access English language courses, training and recruitment services through Australian Migrant Education Service (AMES). To find out more, visit the AMES website.

Adult Migrant English Program

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is a free service for people with low English levels who are new to Australia. The program can help you improve your English language skills and to settle in Australia. To find out if you are eligible, visit the Australian Department of Home Affairs website.

Healthdirect

Healthdirect provides 24/7 health information, advice and referrals. Visit the Health Direct website for additional information on the services available.

If English is not your main language and you need an interpreter, call Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 131 450 and ask to be transferred to Healthdirect.

inTouch – Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence

inTouch is a family violence support service for migrant and refugee women and their communities. Services include

case management
perpetrator intervention programs
a fully accredited community legal centre
specialised migration support.

Link Health and Community – Early childhood disability support

This service helps children:

younger than 6 with developmental delay
younger than 9 with disability and their families/carers
develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life.

Migrant Information Centre

The Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne) supports culturally and linguistically diverse people in the Eastern Region.

The Centre aims to make it easier for new migrants to access services and get involved in the community. The Migrant Information Centre can help individuals find a job or housing, provide migration advice and connect with other support services

Multilingual Information Access (MiAccess) – National Disability Insurance Scheme

You can access National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) information in your language on the MiAccess website.

MiAccess brings together translated information for people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, their carers and communities.

MiAccess also helps people whose first language is not English access the NDIS.

The Local Area Coordinator (LAC) for Boroondara is at 40 Burwood Road, Hawthorn. They're open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. You can email them at [email protected] or call 1800 242 696.
