The City of Boroondara has delivered a standout result in the annual Victorian Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey.
The independent survey found Boroondara’s overall performance score increased to 70 in 2026, up three points on last year’s result and significantly higher than both the metropolitan average of 64 and the state-wide average of 58. Residents rated Council above metropolitan and state-wide averages across every major performance measure.
The annual survey, coordinated by the Victorian Government, provides an independent and consistent measure of community perceptions of each local council’s performance in Victoria.
Residents rated Boroondara particularly highly for its libraries, recreational facilities, waste management services, and the appearance of public areas including parks and gardens.
The survey also found residents have seen significant improvement in Council’s environmental sustainability initiatives, efforts to keep the community informed, and waste management services.
While performance improved across most measures, areas identified for further attention included the condition of footpaths across the municipality and transparency in decision making.
Mayor of Boroondara, Cr Wes Gault, said the results reflected a strong year for Boroondara and the positive direction established through the Community Plan 2025-2035.
“These results are a tremendous endorsement of the work being done by Council and our staff every day to deliver services and infrastructure that matter most to our community,” Cr Gault said.
“We are particularly pleased to see residents recognising improvements in environmental sustainability, communication and waste management, while continuing to value our libraries, recreation facilities and beautiful public spaces.
“The Community Plan 2025-2035 has given Council a clear roadmap for the future, and it is encouraging to see that work already reflected in these results.
“However, we are not taking these strong results and resting on our laurels. We are constantly looking at ways to better serve our community, whether through digital transformation, investing further in environmental sustainability initiatives, or improving active transport connections.
“We know there is always more work to do, and these results help us understand where we are performing well and where we can continue to improve.”
The research was conducted by independent research firm Klein Research, which has more than 30 years’ experience in community satisfaction tracking. More than 600 Boroondara residents participated in the survey.
