The Eastern Freeway will be closed in both directions between Doncaster Road and Tram Road from 10 pm Friday 5 September to 5 am Monday 8 September.

This closure is part of the Victorian Government’s North East Link project, which will connect the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway at Bulleen Road.

Alternative travel options

Delays are expected, so please plan ahead. Detour routes are shown on the map at Victoria’s Big Build website, including:

Citybound: via Tram Road and Doncaster Road

Ringwood-bound: via Doncaster Road and Wetherby Road.

About the works

New, wider and safer bridges are being built at Estelle Street in Bulleen and Heyington Avenue in Doncaster. These are expected to open in late 2025.

During the freeway closure, the Victorian Government will also carry out works at the Doncaster Road interchange, including foundations, drainage and smart road technology.
