The countdown is on to Glenferrie Festival on Sunday 29 March, 11 am to 5 pm.
We’re pleased to support this much-loved community event delivered by the Glenferrie Traders Association.
Want a taste of what’s in store? Here’s our shortlist of top things to see and do to help you plan your visit and experience all the action on the day.
Local Glenferrie traders are the star attraction and many will spill out onto the street for the day, offering exciting specials, festival activations and more. This is Glenferrie Road at its vibrant best. Soak up the lively atmosphere, head in-store to support local business, take your time enjoying lunch and make the most of the expanded outdoor dining areas operating just for the day.
Stretch your legs and wear good footwear. There’ll be over 100 market stalls to explore everything from handmade products and artisan goods to street food, sweet treats and community activations.
From giant slides to spinning chairs and a rocking pirate ship, take your pick of rides to satisfy every thrill seeker. There’ll be other fun, free activities for kids including a basketball activation with Hawthorn Magic and the chance to learn some circus skills! Thanks to Mind Games, you’re invited to also watch or try your luck playing chess against Australian Grand Master Darryl Johansen. There’ll be prizes for anyone who can beat him.
Enjoy a variety of music performances on the main stage all day. Look out for Auburn Brass playing at 11:15 am and Boroondara Symphonic Band (with woodwind, brass and percussion) on stage at 12:20 pm. They’ll be followed by a Seduceaphones set at 1 pm — another Melbourne-based band and a crowd-favourite at festivals known for their genre-defying fusion of brass party beats.
Pop in for a guided tour of Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre, running every 30 minutes during the festival. Take advantage of a special 1-day membership promotion or a free Tanita Body Scan when you visit. Plus, there’ll be the chance to win great prizes including a spin bike challenge where whoever cycles the furthest in 30 seconds will win one-month free membership.
Stick around for the afternoon and you’ll be treated to a lineup generously programmed by Glenferrie trader Alley Tunes that’s all about feel-good grooves at the festival main stage. Catch Intermood from 2:45 pm for a blend of psychedelic jazz and high-energy neo-disco. From 4 pm, you’re in the hands of Melbourne funk collective Black Jesus Experience. Combining Ethiopian song, jazz, funk and hip hop, come ready for some irresistibly danceable music.
